Best productivity apps for the iPad

The iPad has now been out for a week and the web is full of quality reviews which give you in-depth details of Apple latest revolutionary device. The App Store already offers 3,500 apps specially designed for the iPad which happens to be a fantastic device for playing games, browsing the web, watching videos, as well as working and being productive. Here is the list of my top 7 productivity apps for the iPad.

  • WordPress: the best blogging platform already had a great iPhone app. The latest release is a universal app which benefits from the iPad bigger screen and keyboard to bring additional comfort when drafting and publishing new posts for your blog (this post is fully typed on my iPad). Editing features are rather limited and I could not easily adjust fonts and image positions. Good enough to draft a post.
  • Evernote: a complete new design leveraging the additional screen real estate to better manage your notes on the go. The perfect tool to capture meeting notes.
  • 1Password: if your laptop or desktop computer is a Mac, you should definitely give this password manager a try. The iPad version will let you sync and bring along all your passwords as well as copy-paste them into Safari when browsing the web from your couch.
  • iWork: Page, Number and Keynote may have a few frustrating limitations on their first iPad version (like the lack of support for presenter’s notes or certain custom fonts and animations), they remain a great way to edit your office files on the go. I just can’t wait for my next presentation which I will certainly attend without a laptop and will project my slides from the iPad.
  • PCalc: the iPad has no native calculator and this free beautiful and feature rich app definitely fills the gap.
  • Things: I usually use Remember The Milk to manage my todo list but the lack of iPad support made me switch to Things, simple and beautiful.
  • Newsrack: a great Google Reader client which will sync all your RSS feeds from and to Google Reader. Newsrack makes it very easy to share interesting articles by email, Twitter and many more platforms. And once again, the iPad 9″ display is simply perfect to read your favorite RSS feeds.
  • Email & Calendar: these two native iPad apps by Apple are great, far better than their equivalents on the iPhone.

    Erwan,

After playing it for a while, where do you use it mostly? At home, on the road? And how has iPad changed your computing habits and the time you spend on other types of devices, e.g. laptop, mobile phones?

I’m genuinely curious about computing application of the iPad.

I think iPad will seriously replace my mac except for XCoding.
One think that iPad misses is auto sync with a time machine/time capsule.

These are some great applications. I Have found another app that is awesome. Its an Ipad application that is a screen shot slide show and it is awesome! It is called 6S and it is an on the spot slide show. So if you run into someone you want to pitch an idea to really quick you have it right there. You can check it out here: http://www.e-string.com/6s. Thanks!! Carolynn
